How the inflation adjustment works
The calculator compares the HICP price index in your selected year with the latest available month. If prices rose by 25%, €1,000 from the old year needs about €1,250 today to have similar broad purchasing power.
What this does not show
HICP is a broad consumer-price index. Your personal inflation can differ because rent, food, energy, transport and taxes do not rise equally for every household.
Plain-language notes

-
Inflation: prices rising over time. If income or savings do not keep up, the same money buys less.
-
HICP: the EU’s harmonised inflation measure. It helps compare countries using one method.
What to compare
Compare at least two scenarios before trusting the first answer. A useful result should tell you what changes if income, costs, rates, or timing move.
